Dr. Kris E. Smith is dedicated to serving your complete eye care needs. Every one of our staff is trained in the latest techniques to serve you. Dr. Smith works closely with you and our eye team to diagnose any issues and prepare preventative eye care programs tailored to your needs.

Dr. Kris E. Smith is a licensed Florida Optometrist. Orginally from Michigan, Dr. Smith colloquially known as Doc, graduated with his bachelors degree in chemistry from Albion College in 1979.

Dr. Smith earned his doctoral degree in optometry from the Ferris State College of Optometry in 1983 Upon graduation Dr. Smith went into a private group practice specializing in contact lenses research.

Dr. Smith was a contact lens investigator for the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) with numerous contact lens manufacturers. Dr. Smith was also an adjunct clinical professor for the Ferris state College of Optometry's clinic at Jackson State Prision until moving to Florida.

Kris moved to Vero Beach in 1989. "Doc" started out in Vero as an indepentant optometrist for a small indepentant optical chain. in 2000, he aquired his location in Vero and opened his private practice, Vision Plus. The office is 4,500 square feet located in the South Vero Square Shopping Plaza.

Doc provides comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens exams, treats infections and injuries of the eye. He routinely evaluates patients for glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration. he sees patients six days a week, excluding Sunday. His office has full servicing capabilities to manufacture many eye glass prescriptions the same day, including bifocals, trifocals, progessives (no line lenses), transitions and polarized lenses. His eye team consists of 13 members with 3 licensed opticians here to help his patients and those patients with an outside prescription that come into the office.

Dr. Smith truly enjoys his profession and feels that his patients are of the utmost importance. he treats every patient that comes through the door with respect and compassion.

Kris and his wife Lynn, have worked very hard to build a practice centered on customer service.

Family is very special to Kris and Lynn and they treat their patients like they would want someone to treat then and their family members.

Of course, there are many outside activities that Doc enjoys in Florida Particularly, Kris and Lynn love to spend their free time on the beach. You will also spot them cruising around town in a little vintage Nash Metropolitan car.

Dr. Gabrielle Hinton a distinguished graduate with highest honors from Nova Southeastern University's College of Optometry, epitomizes a unique blend of affability and refinement. As a fourth-generation Vero Beach native, she possesses a deep-rooted connection to her hometown and a profound commitment to its residents' well-being.

Dr. Hinton's Journey towards optometry began in 2013, when she embarked on a summer job at Vision Plus while pursuing her undergraduate studies. Her dedication to the field was unwavering, leading her to excel academically. In 2015, she graduated from Colorado College, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in biochemistry complemented by a minor in film studies.

Returning to her beloved Florida, Dr. Hinton devoted herself wholeheartedly to Vision Plus, where she showcased her versatility by engaging in a broad spectrum of tasks, ranging from lens finishing to frame sales. However, her ambition and passion for her hometown motivated her to embark on a new path in 2018 - the journey towards becoming an optometrist. Boyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Hinton finds solace and joy in the company of her family and friends. Her love for exploration has taken her on captivating travels, broadening her perspective, and fostering cultural appreciation. In her downtime, she enjoys listening to her growing vinyl record collection.

Dr. Hinton's tireless dedication, exemplary achievements, and unwavering commitment to her hometown exemplify the embodiment of an exceptional optometrist whose friendly demeanor and refined expertise leave an enduring impact on those she serves.

Dr. Craig Horner is an independent Doctor of Optometry practicing here in Vero Beach since 1985. Dr. Horner received his bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in 1977. During this time, he also worked as an apprentice Optician under his Father-in-Law, Dr. B.Q.Waddell. Developing a passion for the field of eyecare, in 1981 he enrolled in the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN. In 1985 he graduated not only as Class President but also 3rd in his class. After graduation Dr. Horner and his wife moved to Vero Beach where he joined his father-in-law’s optometry practice. Coincidentally, Dr. Waddell took over his grandfather Dr. J.C. Dubose’s Optometry practice in 1949. Dr. Dubose started his practice in 1919. That’s over 100 years of giving the miracle of sight to Vero Beach residents.

Dr. Horner has been an active member of the Vero Beach community raising 4 children with his beautiful wife. The Horner family continues to grow as they now enjoy 7 amazing grandchildren. He is a devoted member of First Methodist Church and past president of the Kiwanis club of Vero/Treasure Coast and the Treasure Coast Optometric Society. Dr. Craig Horner has a passion for his community, his family, and his chosen profession. It is an honor for him to join our team here at Vision Plus. Welcome Dr. Horner!
